Bend the bare end of the wire into a hook or u shape using needlenose pliers. The wire insulation should be close to but not under the screw. Alternatively you can wire the switch up in such a way that only that single outlet will be controlled by the switch but other outlets in the circuit will still stay powered on constantly. The ground wire sometimes in a green jacket should be connected to your switch and to your lights.

To connect the switches simply score the wire with your wire stripper and push the insulation to expose about 3 4 in. Only the bare metal of the wire should contact any part of the screw.
